The Honda Goldwing motorcycle debuted in 1975 as a 1000cc flat-4 cylinder. Front dual and single rear disc brakes were luxurious features at the time. Riders soon began adding fairings and luggage to turn these bikes into touring bikes. Subsequent years saw Honda make bigger versions that came with fairings and luggage installed at the factory. 1980 saw the introduction of the first factory touring model, GL1100 cc Interstate and then the luxury model "Aspencade". This was followed by an upgrade to 1200cc in 1984, and then to 1520cc with a horizontal opposed 6-cylinder (flat-6) engine in 1988. The current version is the GL1800 with 1832 cubic centimeters of displacement.In September 2005, Honda announced the world's first production motorcycle airbag system scheduled for availability in late 2006.The GL1800 offers several features not usually found on other bikes: A large passenger seat with backrest. Aftermarket accessories include arm rests with beverage holders. Integrated audio system, capable of playing music from a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer.
