Golden-Crowned
Sparrows are is a small, attractive, “cute”
little bird that live along the Pacific Coast and adjacent
mountain areas. They love alder and willow thickets, often
flocking in great numbers, and often breed in alpine and
tundra areas from Alaska to extreme northwest Washington.
The Golden Crowned Sparrow changes its plumage from season
to season, with the yellow namesake plumage coming out
in the summer months. The “crown” takes the
form of a spiky patch that rises well above the beak,
with both the male and female of the species having the
same color plumage. The Golden-crowned Sparrow is similar
in appearance to the two other "crowned" sparrows,
but this sparrow can be distinguished dark eye stripe.
The Golden Crowned Sparrow is a welcome addition to any
birdfeeder colony and its color and song can brighten
up an otherwise dreary day. |
