The
Green Winged Teal is a common sight among areas like Canada,
Alaska, Maine, N. Dakota, Minnesota, and Northern Michigan.
During the winter they move to places like Mexico and
the southern United States for the warmer weather. Like
most ducks the Green Winged Teal love wet marshy areas
like beaver ponds and coastal marshes; they favor this
land because of the heavy vegetation and muddy pond bottoms
that hold the type of vegetation that the duck likes to
eat. The Green Winged Teal is one of the smaller examples
of “duckdom”, with courtship between males
and females starting between September and November. The
nest is built by the female when she is ready to lay eggs,
and males usually stay close at hand to keep an eye on
the process and to ward off other suitors. |
